Carshalton Brass Studio (or ‘the
garage’ as it was known then) was
built in early 2020 as
all lessons moved online. Located at the bottom of the garden, sound proofed and treated, it was
initially an act of kindness to the neighbours as our teaching hours meant there was music to be
heard all day every day from the house. The studio is now equipped to produce the finest online
audio possible and is spacious enough for group, as well as individual, lessons.
We
provide instrument hire options as well as a rehearsal and recording space. Our online
ensembles, such as the
#TheBigBrassPlayalong
, have proven hugely popular with participants from all across the UK taking part.
Music theory and brass arranging lessons are
taught as well as any brass instrument. Carshalton Brass Studio has self published a book of
brass arrangements entitled 'Duets' as well as 'Trios' and have three pieces for full brass band
published with
Prima Vista Music.
Cai and Vic met whilst studying the trumpet at the
Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. They have over 12 years' experience of teaching
all brass instruments to pupils of any ability, from any age group, both within individual
lessons and group settings.
With the sound of trumpet filling the
house on a daily basis, they are both deeply passionate about brass playing and aim to excite
and motivate their pupils to the same degree. They endeavour to ensure that every pupil fulfils
their potential and offer support to those needing a little extra encouragement.
Huge
pride is taken in watching pupils grow and improve. Enjoyment and appreciation are taught
alongside a great understanding of all technical aspects of the instrument in all of their
lessons and they’re often praised for their efforts to make learning a fun environment.
Carshalton Brass Studio is run by Cai and Victoria Isfryn who met whilst both studying trumpet performance at the Royal Northern College of Music (Bmus) between 2006 and 2010. Victoria followed this with a masters at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Cai at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. They both have over 11 years experience of teaching all brass instruments at all levels and have led workshops for organisations such at the National Youth Orchestra (where we worked with the most talented young musicians in the country) Halle Outreach, LSO Discovery, Live Music Now (for whom they created projects for disadvantaged children), National Youth Brass Band of Wales, “Codi’r Tô” and “The Nucleo Project” (which are both El Sistema programmes aimed at children of a poorer economic background.)

Dirty Brasstards
as well as two books of brass duets and trios.
Rehearsals take place at 5pm every Wednesday at River Church, Sutton, SM5
3QB and last 45mins. All music is provided with expert ensemble
tuition. Join other young brass musicians every week for an hour during term time to play some
film music and “pop” songs. We encourage everyone who takes part to have as much fun as
possible making music with others, in a relaxed and friendly environment.
You need to be Grade 1 standard or above and aged 6-13 years old. Enquire below for prices and
dates of our rehearsals. We have some exciting performance opportunities coming up in and
around the local area. We can’t wait to meet you.
We’re offering full class brass tuition which allows the young musicians to learn together and encourage each other in a fun and creative environment. Each pupil will be given a brass instrument and over the course of half a term will be taught the basics of playing by a professional brass musician and teacher. The material used will always be contemporary and relevant with the aim being to perform as a whole class to the rest of the school at the end of the course.
Music is a vital part of the cognitive development of any young pupil and we believe that every child should be given the opportunity and have access to learning an instrument. Our six week course will introduce them to basic concepts of music theory as well as the ins and out of how to create a sound on a brass instrument. We believe that we can develop a culture of curiosity about music making and will get the classroom excited about brass!
